They help you follow a route by naming destinations and roads.
How to recognise them: A rectangular board, often arrow-shaped, with the destination written on it.
A direction sign names destinations and the way to reach them. The first, S-300 to S-322, name towns (S-300 and S-301), places of interest that are not towns (S-320 and S-321), and cycle tracks or cycle-and-foot paths (S-322). The figure beside each name is the kilometres still to go, and on the first two a box identifies the road by category and number.
From S-341 on, every name in the group includes "immediate exit". S-341 and S-342 mark where you leave a motorway or autovía, and their figure is the junction number, which matches the kilometre point. S-348 to S-353 copy the structure of the advance direction signs, lateral or overhead, with "a" variants that also show where the present road carries on; what their definitions leave out is the distance, which the advance signs give. For the first of two exits in quick succession there are S-373 and S-375, and for services and service areas, S-376 to S-380.

S-348
S-350Both mark the immediate exit at the next junction towards a conventional or multi-lane road. S-348 is a side panel and S-350 hangs over the carriageway.
S-341
S-342Both mark where you leave a motorway or autovía, and on both the figure is the junction number. S-341 leads to a conventional or multi-lane road; S-342 to another motorway or autovía.
S-300
S-320S-300 names towns on a route by conventional or multi-lane road. S-320 names places of interest on the same kind of route that are not towns.
S-373
S-375Both stand at the first of two exits very close together on a motorway or autovía, and show the road's own direction, the destinations of the second exit and those of the first. What changes is where the first exit leads: to a conventional or multi-lane road on S-373, to a motorway or autovía on S-375.
S-379
S-380Both lead to a service area on a motorway or autovía. S-379 marks the exit with the area's name, its opening hours and pictograms of what it offers, plus the distance to the next one; S-380 marks the point where you leave.

Gives the names of towns on one or more routes made up of a conventional or multi-lane road, and which way to go to reach them. The sign may carry one or more boxes beside the destinations giving the road's class and number. The figures aligned with the destinations give how far away they are in kilometres.
S-301
Gives the names of towns on a route made up of a motorway or dual carriageway, and which way to go to reach them. The box inside the sign gives the road's class and number. The figures aligned with the destinations give how far away they are in kilometres.
S-320
Gives places of interest that are not towns, on a route made up of a conventional or multi-lane road. The figures aligned with the destinations give how far away they are in kilometres.
S-321
Gives places of interest that are not towns, on a route made up of a motorway or dual carriageway. The figures aligned with the destinations give how far away they are in kilometres.
S-322
Shows that there is a cycle track or a cycle-and-foot path in the direction the arrow points. The figures aligned with the destinations give how far away they are in kilometres.
S-341
Marks the exit from a motorway or dual carriageway onto a conventional or multi-lane road. The figure gives the interchange number, which matches the road's kilometre point.
S-342
Marks the exit from a motorway or dual carriageway onto a motorway or dual carriageway. The figure gives the interchange number, which matches the road's kilometre point.
S-344
Marks where to leave for the services shown, which may share the exit with one towards a conventional or multi-lane road.
S-347
Marks where to leave for a service zone, area or road, sharing the exit with one towards a motorway or dual carriageway.
S-348
On a conventional or multi-lane road, gives the destinations of the exits at the junction ahead where they lead to a conventional or multi-lane road.
S-348a
On a conventional or multi-lane road, gives the direction of the road you are on and the destinations of the exits at the junction ahead where they lead to a conventional or multi-lane road.

If they are in a town, its name may appear on the sign's first line, and if they stand on a service road the words “vía de servicio” appear. Where the services include a filling station or a charging point, the distance to it and its opening hours are given. The lower panel gives the distance to, and opening hours of, the next filling station or charging point in your direction of travel.
S-377
On all other conventional roads, marks the exit towards the services shown. Where they include a filling station or a charging point, its opening hours are given.
S-378
On a motorway or dual carriageway, marks the exit towards the services shown. If they are in a town, its name may appear on the sign's first line, and if they stand on a service road the words “vía de servicio” appear. Where the services include a filling station or a charging point, the distance to it and its opening hours are given. The lower panel gives the distance to, and opening hours of, the next filling station or charging point in your direction of travel. The upper panel gives the exit number.
S-379
On a motorway or dual carriageway, marks the exit towards a service area, giving its name and opening hours along with the pictograms of the services it offers. The lower panel gives the distance to, and opening hours of, the next service area in your direction of travel.
S-380
Marks the exit from a motorway or dual carriageway to a service area.
